Sunday Six 2.0: Week 8

After a bout with another cold and laryngitis, I'm finally getting around to posting this past week's Sunday Six. I had high hopes for this week since I ended up with tickets to the circus. But, I ended up being IN the circus and wasn't able to take my camera onto the circus floor. So, I missed out on lots of fun shots with clowns, acrobats, and the high wire performers. I did manage to get a couple of decent shots, though.


This is two of several acrobats who performed during the first part of the circus. The poses they held were really neat. It takes so much strength to be able to do that!


So, how much would it take for you to jump through this?




Surely if this guy can do it, you can, too!


I realize there are quite a few distractions in this one. It comes with the territory of being in the center of the city. This is a shot of Midtown Atlanta, looking East. We also have the signature tell-tale sign that this was shot from the driver's seat of Murphy -- the blue windshield!


Finally, I met up with Allison and some of her students at Fat Matt's for some yummy BBQ on Saturday night. I really wanted to get a shot of the signs before I headed home.

So, this week's Sunday Six will likely feature pictures from Tennessee, as I'm headed there tomorrow to visit my family. See you then!

White II

I had my very own winter wonderland last weekend! This area is near Barrington Hall and Roswell City Hall. There was no one around but me Saturday morning. It was beautiful!

Feminine

A port of the "Faces of War" memorial at Roswell City Hall. The memorial is dedicated to those who served during the Vietnam War. In addition to inscribed bricks along the walkways, the memorial includes 50 faces, cast in bronze, depicting a variety of emotions, including fear, grief, and courage. They represent American serviceman and women, medical personnel, and Vietnamese civilians. One figure in the sculpture is that of a soldier reaching out to clasp the hand of this little girl. In warmer weather, there is a sheer waterfall that flows over the backdrop faces. The water allows visitors to see a reflection of their own faces and at that instant become a part of the memorial.

Simplicity

This was taken on the grounds of the Roswell City Hall. The area is covered in light forest which made for some pretty scenery. I saw one other set of footprints and those were from another photographer out walking around.

Sunday Six 2.0: Week 7

This week's Sunday Six is a Recap Six, but only from the weekend. However, it's a weekend with snow! Metro Atlanta received about 3 inches of snow Friday night. It was a beautiful morning to get out and take some photos.


It was a sunny morning, which made the snow even prettier.


See?! This is the Roswell City Hall complex. I was the only one make footprints out there.


In addition to the snow, we had a thin layer of ice. It melted away pretty quickly as it warmed up.


I love how the snow sticks to the tree branches.


I spotted this little snowman on the patio of a local restaurant.


Finally, vanilla cupcakes with vanilla frosting I made over the weekend. I wasn't too fond of the cake recipe, but the frosting was so good!

Alone

This chubby little guy was all by himself Saturday morning. He hopped between all the snow covered trees until he found a spot in the sun.

Geometric

This is one of several pieces of art which is displayed around the Roswell square. I liked the contrast between the blue of the artwork and the snow.

White

My cream and sugar set. I love that the cream dispenser is shaped like a little milk carton.

Sunday Six 2.0: Week 6

Hopefully no one is tired of river pictures just yet. Today I was on a photo drive in my neighborhood and stopped at the same spot from Week 2. One difference? Much higher water this week! We had another deluge of rain late last week which pushed the area rivers and creeks even higher.


It's kind of hard to tell in this picture.


But, in this one you can! I was standing on a little deck which is usually 4-5 feet above the water. Today, the water was right at the very top of the floor.


I liked the patterns of the railings and the water in this one.


A bench which is certainly not going to have much company until the water recedes a bit.


Back home and looking for a bit of color, I decided on these three little bottles of light rum I picked up in Barbados.


Look what came in the mail this week! I took this sunset picture on my trip to Puerto Rico. I can't wait to see what it looks like hanging on the wall.

Texture

As I was walking through some of the hiking trails on Sunday I passed several of these blue hiking blazes. I liked how this one made the texture of the tree bark more noticeable. It causes you to focus on parts of the tree you normally might not.

Warning

So, remember how I said the Chattahoochee is still pretty swollen? This is the warning I saw all over the Recreation Area Sunday due to the high river levels.

Sunday Six 2.0: Week 5

I'm a couple of days late getting these photos posted, but . . . at least they're outside photos! The sun finally came out a bit this Sunday so I was able to get out and explore a bit.


A frozen fountain I passed while driving around. I like the arc of the icicles. I passed this fountain on my way to this view . . .


This is a view of downtown Atlanta from the Vinings area. Rumor has it the hill this photo is taken from is the hill where Sherman stood during the Burning of Atlanta. It's a bit hazy for January, but you can still see the skyline fairly well.


One of the places I visited Sunday was the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area. It contains 16 different park areas with 50 miles of hiking trails and runs from Lake Lanier in North Georgia all the way through metro Atlanta. This photo shows show high our river levels have remained over the past few months. Normally, you could walk down to rocks along the bank of the river. Currently, the Park Rangers have cordoned off an area about 10 feet from the river as a safety measure. This particular part of the river remains about 4.5 feet below flood stage.


Just a simple shot of branches along the river bank.


Had this been taken just a day later I could've used it for February's "What Is It?" theme. My guess is some sort of animal stick figure? Anyone else?


This photo ended up with an almost fish-eye feel to it. This was taken along one of the hiking trails within the Rec. Area.
