Ordinary (224 of 365)

Ordinary [2011]

Barns can be pretty ordinary sights in the country. This one is just below the historic Scott Mansion in Tellico Plains, TN. With it's beautiful view, it's anything but ordinary!

Movement [2011]

This is Ellie. She belongs to my cousin and came to visit during my family's Christmas celebration. Ellie, as you can see from the picture, is always moving. Out of 33 pictures I took of her only one managed to be in focus!

House-Home [2011]
Just to give you an idea, this is the fully decorated living room at my Mom's house. See what I mean about having a gazillion decorations? This is just part of one room!

Holidays (221 of 365)

Holidays [2011]
This is my Mom's Christmas tree. She always has a beautiful one. The Santa Claus in the back was meant to be a joke (because she has a gazillion Christmas decorations). The joke was on me. She loved it! Go figure.

Pampered (220 of 365)

Pampered [2011]
This is Molly. She belongs to one of my Mom's neighbors. However, if you were to ask my Mom, Molly is her dog. Every morning she comes to visit my Mom and Grandmother while they enjoy their morning coffee.

Thanksgiving morning she joined me for a little photoshoot. She is one of the sweetest dogs!

From My Past (219 of 365)

From My Past [2011]
Before I was born, this land belonged to, and was farmed by, my Grandfather (along with my aunts, uncles, and my Mom). Now, most of the acreage is used as a dairy and soybean farm.

Powerful (218 of 365)

Powerful [2011]
Bald River Falls is located in the Cherokee National Forest where the Bald River empties into the Tellico River. It's a beautiful, and powerful, 100 foot waterfall. Growing up, we drove to Bald River Falls all the time. My favorite times to visit the falls were after heavy rains or snowy weather.

Home [2011]
I never thought much about the view from home until I moved away. I love how this field changes through the year. It's absolutely beautiful in morning light.

Dairy (214 of 365)

Dairy [2011]
I grew up across the street from this dairy farm. In fact, all this land used to belong to my Grandfather.

Last Friday, we enjoyed a beautiful sunset and I meandered about taking photos. I ended up with nearly 30 bovine visitors along the fence line. Seriously. They were lined up in front of me.

This one turned out to be one of my favorites!

Action Shot (211 of 365)

Action Shot [2011]
Most trips home to Tennessee include a trip to the mountains. East Tennessee is a short drive to the Smoky Mountains National Park or the Cherokee National Forest.

This is Baby Falls within the Cherokee National Forest. The falls, at 15 feet, are a popular spot for kayakers (and brave jumpers!). There were a slew of kayakers on the river this weekend and we watched several make their way safely over the falls.

Motion Blur [2011]

A little bit of motion blur in this waterfall shot. It was rainy the afternoon we were hiking in the canyon, so it's definitely not the best shot!

This is the entry to the Devil Spring System which has several miles of underground caves to be explored. This system is accessible at Ginnie Springs, the location of the latest school I attended in order to finish up my cavern diver & Master Diver certification.

Every Day Sights(198 of 365)

Every Day Sights [2011]

Living in the Atlanta area definitely has its benefits. One of those is being so close to the North Georgia Mountains and being able to see sights like these pretty frequently.

This is Amicalola Falls, at 729 feet tall, they're the tallest cascades in the Southeast.

Rule of Thirds (189 of 365)

Rule of Thirds [2011]

I decided to take a totally different spin on the "Rule of Thirds." Photography isn't the only subject with this rule. Scuba diving, or specifically cavern or cave diving, has one, too. These types of dives are in overhead environments where a diver is unable to immediately reach the surface in the event of emergency. As a result, cave divers developed the "Rule of Thirds": you use 1/3 of your air supply to enter and explore the cave, 1/3 of your air supply to return to the surface, and the remaining 1/3 is available for you or your dive buddy in the event of an emergency.

Tools (187 of 365)

Tools [2011]

This is a primary reel. It's just one of the many tools that cavern and cave divers use to safely explore underground caverns and caves. They're also sometimes used by divers exploring wrecks in the ocean.

Think of it as underwater bread crumbs!

Fasteners (186 of 365)

Fasteners [2011]

While these aren't your typical fasteners, they're very important ones. These are line arrows. Cave divers use these directional markers to point the way to the exit of the cave system. Should you lose your lights or end up in a silt out, these markers fastened to your reel lines will point you in the direction of the cave exit.

Games [2011]

I happened upon this large swan in the middle of my path on a walk through Barnsley Gardens. The swan refused to move. We spent about 10 minutes eyeballing each other until I was finally able to pass without getting charged.

Glass (182 of 365)

Glass [2011]

A few weeks ago I visited Ginnie Springs in Florida to complete a cavern diver certification course. This was also the last certification I needed to officially become a Master Diver!

Ginnie Springs is absolutely beautiful! It has gin clear water in all three diveable springs, in addition to, over 33,000 feet of underwater cave passage. Ginnie Springs is one of the top cave diving destinations in the world.
