Music (29 of 365)

Music [2011]

This may seem like an odd choice for the "music" theme. However, this is actually John Keane Studios in Athens, Georgia. John Keane is a Grammy nominated music producer based in Athens. The three bands he has worked with most exclusively are R.E.M., Indigo Girls and Widespread Panic.

Lots of great music comes out of this little house.

The Georgia Theatre located in downtown Athens, Georgia. The theater is in the process of being rebuilt after being heavily damaged in a fire.

The theater is a huge part of Athens musical history. The building has been used as a theater and movie house since 1918 and has seen the likes of Nirvana, R.E.M., Widespread Panic, Beck, The Police, and Dave Matthews Band.

A very delicious Tres Chiles Margarita. See the garnish inside the drink? Those are candied jalapenos. They were so yummy!

Sandy (20 of 365)

Sandy [2011]
The canyon floor was much less rocky than I expected. It was really sandy and there were lots of different colors of sand. Of course, the sand made for wonderfully icky mud!

Leaf. I really like the green and red in the leaf, especially with the sun shining through.

Amazing (17 of 365)

Amazing [2011]
This past Sunday found me with a friend hiking in and around Providence Canyon. Providence is nicknamed "Georgia's Little Grand Canyon."

It's a 3-mile hike around the rim of the canyon, and there are trails leading into 7 of the canyons. We hiked down into 3 of the canyons. It's a really neat place!

Architecture (15 of 365)

Architecture I [2011]
I happened to be driving by the BAPS Mandir Temple the other day and stopped to take a couple of photos. I posted some pictures of this beautiful temple several years ago, and there's a good shot of the size of the temple here.

Architecture II [2011]

The estimated cost of the temple is $19 million. According to Wiki, more than 1,300 craftsmen and 900 volunteers worked on building the temple. More than 4,500 tons of Italian Carrara marble, 4,300 tons of Turkish limestone, and 3,500 tons of Indian pink sandstone were quarried and shipped to the craftsmen in India, and then shipped to the U.S.

Architecture III [2011]

As beautiful as the temple is on the exterior, the interior is stunning! Nearly every bit of the interior shrine is carved in some way. The detail is just amazing.

This is Sebastian. He belongs to some SCUBA friends of mine. They actually have two Himalayan cats. The other kitty, Chesney, is a bit more shy and did not appreciate my camera one bit.

Under Water (13 of 365)

Under Water[2011]
It's Nessie! Well, not really, but it sure looks like the Lochness Monster, doesn't it?

This is an Elasmosaurus. These guys are estimated to have been about 45 feet long. Again, the first Elasmosaurus fossils were found in Kansas!
