Sunday Six 2.0: Week 4

This past weekend was pretty cold and rainy here in Atlanta. Due to this, I have indoor photos for this week's Sunday Six. However! I did buy flowers so that there could at least be some color and cheer.

Onward to this week's flower themed photos . . .

This last photo is my favorite of the six. I like the composition and variations of the focus on the petals.

Until next week, when Atlanta may provide pictures of snow!

Cropping - January Mini Assignment

Cropping was one of several composition rules I played with today. I just happened to like the resulting photo from this rule the best.

CF_Cropping_2[2010]
I started off with a fairly wide shot of this bust. The photo arguably follows the Rule of Thirds, but I didn't particularly like it. I played with shooting from straight on and from the other side. Then I moved forward.

CF_Cropping[2010]
I like this shot much better. Granted, they both are pretty simple shots, I like this one. I adjusted the white balance a bit to bring out the bust and toned down the color of the background just a bit.

Sunday Six 2.0: Week 3

Today's Sunday Six is a New Six from this afternoon. I stopped by the High Museum of Art to check out the Leonardo Da Vinci exhibit and then headed over for a peak at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. It was rainy today, so I knew the garden would be much less crowded than the High.

SS_3_Art[2010]
First, this piece of art would look so good in my loft.

SS_3_View_Below[2010]
A view from the top level of the High Museum of Art looking down into the main gallery area.

SS_3_High_View[2010]
A view from the High out to Midtown Atlanta.

SS_3_Orchid[2010]
One really pretty orchid.

SS_3_Cactus[2010]
A prickly pear cactus. Mmm, makes me want a prickly pear margarita!

SS_3_Flowers[2010]
Finally, pretty pink flowers.

Until next week . . .

Cold

2010VP_Cold

I'm finally getting up my first photo for the 2010 Virtual Photowalk. This is a shot of the partially frozen Chattahoochee River, complete with lost kickball. I can't imagine too many kids crawling out to pick up their kickball when it's warm, but definitely not when it's cold!

Sunday Six 2.0: Week 2

This week's Sunday Six is a Recap Six from a long, cold walk I took on Saturday morning. Y'all, it's been ridiculously cold for Atlanta, Georgia. It's rare for Atlanta to have high temps that are below freezing for a day or two. It's been this way since January 1st! I protest! :)

SS10_02_Chattahoochee[2010]
This is the Chattahoochee River where it runs through Roswell. Roswell has a nice greenway system that runs alongside the river. This is a pretty typical view of the river.

SS10_02_Freeze[2010]
This is not. Granted, this is more of an inlet, and the water certainly isn't swift like the main body of the river. It's just not typical to see frozen bodies of water down here!

SS10_02_Railing[2010]
I'm not really sure what prompted me to take this shot. Maybe something with the rust of the rail? Not the best shot in the set, but it'll do. ;)

SS10_02_Fencepost[2010]
I set off down a side trail during my walk in the hopes of finding some interesting shots. This fencepost caught my eye because of the shadows and that one dark knot up top.

SS10_02_Ice_on_Chattahoochee[2010]
Another shot of the snow and ice along the river bank.

SS10_02_Ice[2010]
Finally, a shot of ice on my windows Saturday morning.

Still thawing out in Georgia,

Sunday Six 2.0: Week 1

This week's Sunday Six is not especially creative for three reasons. First, I'm tired. Second, I'm sick. And, third? Well, it's just plain cold outside! So, that means you have all indoor photos today, and not very exciting ones.

However . . . on we go!

SS1_Chucks[2010]
New shoes! I love them so.

SS1_My_Clock[2010]
A couple of folks mentioned they'd like to see the entire clock that I used for the "Clocks" theme during "365 in 2009." Here it is. My 1/4 clock.

SS1_Panic[2010]
A ticketstub from my New Year's Eve adventure with friends.

SS1_Decoration[2010]

SS1_Circles2[2010]

SS1_Circles[2010]
These are wooden circles I picked out for some modern wall decorations. They come primed, so you can paint them if you want, or leave them as is. You simply figure out how you want to display them and stick them on the wall. This morning I was playing around with designs and shapes, which turned into taking pictures of the designs and shapes. These three shots were the ones I liked best.

Not the best start to this year's Sunday Six, but it's a start at least! Until next week . . .

2010 Virtual Photowalk

I've participated in some sort of photo challenge the last two years. This year, I participated in two! For 2010 I'm also going to attempt to participate in two photo challenges. I'd really like to stick with the Sunday Six challenge that Helen created. Although, I think I'm the only person who is still posting!

The new challenge for 2010 isn't a daily challenge like 366 or 365. It was created by some of the same photographers who joined in this year's 365 challenge. Here's what they've come up with:

All participants in the 2010 Virtual Photowalk are encouraged to maintain a blog and post photos as frequently as their schedules and desire allows while exploring their own photographic growth and path.

Each month we will be posting a new list of 15 themes for inspiration. Periodically, we will have some additional postings that go ‘Beyond Themes’ with inspiration more focused on technique, skills and process (think macro, black and white, etc.). You don’t need to use the Themes or Beyond Themes inspiration to participate in the Photowalk; they are there simply for inspiration if you wish to use them.

We’re also working on some additional plans to allow for some group “Show and Tell” with constructive discussion for the group at large – more on that later!

There is no requirement to post a photo for each theme, they are just there to help expand your photographer’s eye and help you look at your world with a different point of view. Look up the words in a dictionary – you’ll be surprised to see the many different meanings and it might help spark a new direction for you. Post as many or as few as you want, repeat themes if you’re driven to capture multiple examples. Seek out creative interpretation of the theme and use this list to push the limits of your imagination, but most importantly, seek out photos that stand on their own as good photography.

Here's the theme list for January, 2010:

Arc
Bold
Chaos
Cold
Doors & Windows
Edible
Layers
Looking Down
Masculine
Meditative
Pattern
Pink
Texture
Trio
Warning

Mini Assignment: Cropping

I think the first list sounds pretty intriguing! Lots of possibilities for each of these themes.

So, come along for this ride if you like. I may not hit each theme, but I'm sure to get a few interesting photos in the mix! :)
