366 Pictures: #360 Zips

Photobucket

These are my cranberry boots. The picture doesn't really catch the color correctly, but they're a pretty dark cranberry color.

Date: November 30, 2008.

366 Pictures: #79 Desire

Photobucket
Today I made a Chocolate Fudge Cheesecake. This particular recipe calls for a pistachio crust. To do that, you need chopped pistachios. Unfortunately, my handy little chopper has grown legs and walked out of my house. I searched high and low for it today.

Photobucket
After chopping two cups worth of these suckers, I had the most fervent desire for my chopper! This took forever!

Photobucket
This is the nearly finished cheesecake. It just needs the final layer of batter and then to bake!

Cherry passion tic tacs. Sweet mints.

An origami crane that I definitely did not make. It would be an unrecognizable wad of paper if I'd made it.

366 Pictures: #276 Pride

Photobucket

One of the most famous landmarks in Chicago, it's the Chicago Theater! It was the first movie palace in America and is called "the Wonder Theatre of the World." A point of pride for the city of Chicago.

Date: November 22, 2008.

366 Pictures: #200 Life

Photobucket

I loved this installation at the Field Museum as soon as I saw it. The colors are great, obviously, but the quote from Charles Darwin along with the photos of the different forms of life, it's just really neat.

Photobucket
This one is just scary.

Both were part of the Field Museum's Evolving Planet exhibit.

366 Pictures: #127 Sadness

Photobucket

This is what I felt as I was headed to Midway on Sunday. I was so sad to be leaving Chicago. I really enjoyed exploring the city and can't wait to go back.

Date: November 23, 2008.

366 Pictures: #12 Performance

The Oriental Theater where I saw the Chicago company's performance of "Wicked."

366 Pictures: #114 Love

This is a bookmark I bought at the Frank Lloyd Wright museum store. It's from his Organic Commandments which make up his ideology or organic architecture.

Date: November 22, 2008.

366 Pictures: #197 Wavy

Photobucket

This is Cloud Gate at Millennium Park. It's a really cool installation. It reflects the skyline of the city, as well as the people walking around it. That's me all bundled up in the red coat!

366 Pictures: #10 Underground

Photobucket

I'm going opposite with this theme. I had intended to use a photo taken underground in a subway station. However, I was able to ride the "L" this weekend in Chicago. This is one of the photos I took while on the L as it made it's way out of town. The obvious building in the background is the Sears Tower (still currently the tallest building in North America). Notice the small bits of blurriness at the bottom of the picture? They're from small spots in the window of the train.

Date: November 23, 2008.

366 Pictures: #240 Cinema

Photobucket

This photo may seem a bit odd at first, however, it does fit the theme. These are the lions of Tsavo. If you've seen the movie "The Ghost and the Darkness" then you're familiar with these lions. These are the actual lions, although they were repaired due to damage to the skins. The exhibit says the actual lions were much bigger. I had never heard of maneless lions, but evidently, it's one of the traits of lions from this region of Africa.

The story behind the lions is really scary, but very interesting, and the movie is really well done.

What's scary? These two lions aren't the largest man-eating lions. Check out this guy. He's also on display at the Field Museum.

Date: November 21, 2008.

366 Pictures: #65 Invention

Photobucket

This theme was another that was difficult for me to figure out. Saturday I went to Oak Park, a suburb of Chicago, where Frank Lloyd Wright used to live. As the inventor of the Prairie design of architecture, I thought it was a good fit for this theme. This is the home he lived in for several years, and his studio is on the left. We weren't allowed to take photos inside, but it was beautiful!

Photobucket
Here is the sign that is on the outside of his studio.

Date: November 22, 2008.

366 Pictures: #83 Retro

Photobucket

I stayed at the Palmer House in Chicago. This was my room. As Marshall would say, "It's super swank!"

Date: November 20, 2008.

366 Pictures: #248 Pyramid

Photobucket

I had no clue what I was going do to for this theme. However, the Field Museum had an exhibit called "Inside Ancient Egypt." You walk through an Egyptian tomb that's in a pyramid!

Date: November 21, 2008.

366 Pictures: #340 Holiday

Photobucket

When I first checked into my hotel, the lobby was normal. By the time I left Sunday morning, it had exploded with Christmas decorations! This is the Christmas tree they displayed in the lobby.

Date: November 23, 2008.

366 Pictures: #242 Museum

Photobucket

Chicago's Field Museum. It was amazing! It's impossible to see everything on exhibit in one day, and they only have 1% of their collection on display!

Date: November 21, 2008.

366 Pictures: #166 Balance

Photobucket

One of the cool things about Chicago is all the public art throughout the city. This installation is called "Agora" and its located in Grant Park. The artist, Magdalena Abakanowicz, created 106 cast iron figures, each about 9 feet tall. They have no heads or arms and stand like they've just been frozen. Each individual figure has variations in its surface, kind of like tree bark. They were really fun to walk through.

Date: November 21, 2008.

366 Pictures: #212 Warning

Photobucket

As I was walking to Millenium Park last week, I walked by this warning sign. I immediately cracked up at its randomness. It was in a big field within Grant Park.

Date: November 21, 2008.

366 Pictures: #147 Bones

Photobucket

This is Sue. Sue is the largest and most complete fossil of a Tyrannosaurus rex. She's 13 feet tall and 42 feet wide. She lives at the Field Museum.

366 Pictures: #104 Cake

This is a mini chocolate bundt cake I had at the Field Museum in Chicago. It was yummy!

The sun rising over Atlanta. This was taken from the air as my flight was taking off for Chicago. I didn't have time to change my lens, so this had to be taken with my fixed 60mm lens.

366 Pictures: #250 Halfway

This is the BP Bridge. It is one wacky stainless steel bridge, and totally worth it to click the link to see an aerial view. The bridge was designed by Frank Gehry.

Here I am standing in the middle of the bridge.

Last Minute Fun . . .

I have to fly to Chicago for a client conference tomorrow, super early tomorrow morning. On Monday, I starting debating just staying through the weekend and exploring Chicago. I've never been to Chicago, save for flying through O'Hare or Midway on my way somewhere else. So, this weekend I will be freezing my butt off and photographing my way around the city!

I'm really excited! Prepare for an influx of 366 themes when I return! I'm gonna knock these guys out!

366 Pictures: #136 Magnified

Photobucket

This was taken inside Murphy just after I got in from the downpour today. I really like the bokeh effect from the trees and sky outside.

Date: November 15, 2008.

366 Pictures: #279 Inside Out

Photobucket

This is a blown glass bulb I spotted at the Atlanta Botanical Garden. I would've posted it earlier, but it took me a few days, and a friend, to figure out which theme I liked for it. I like how it's all smooshy and pretty inside, and then taking a step back and looking at it as whole, it's really pretty on the outside, too.

Date: October 30, 2008.

366 Pictures: #149 Sinking

Photobucket

I took this driving home from Little Mulberry Park. It was the start of sunset and the sun was sinking lower and lower in the sky. It made for a beautiful drive home.

Date: November 15, 2008.

366 Pictures: #260 Beginning

Photobucket

I was unable to find a newspaper on November 5th. Not one, of any paper. So, I made sure I was up early to get my Saturday and Sunday AJC's since they were printing commemorative issues. I was not going to have my papers stolen.

This is the front page of the Sunday AJC for November 8, 2008. I love that it fits this theme.

Date: November 15, 2008.

366 Pictures: #243 Chilly

Photobucket

You wouldn't know from looking that it was super windy and chilly today. I actually have a bit on wind burn on my face. This rainbow appeared after a short rain shower. Said rain shower let loose while I was on top of an overlook taking photos. I hustled it back down the half-mile trail to Murphy in the pouring rain! Once I'd made sure my camera and lenses were all nice and dry, this rainbow appeared.

366 Pictures: #76 Torn

Photobucket

While Helen was here, we went to the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta. One of the things they do there is shred worn currency. They hand out little bags of shredded money as souvenirs. This is probably the one time in my life that I'll have a large pile of money just sitting around.

366 Pictures: #281 Royal

As you know, the United States doesn't have a royal family. So, there's a very slim chance that I'd snap a shot of an actual royal. So, you get royal blue!

366 Pictures: #322 Portrait

The 1995 World Series Trophy the Braves received after defeating the Cleveland Indians. Underneath, is the baseball and bat that Hank Aaron used to hit his 715th career home run.

Both of these are housed at the Braves Museum. It chronicles the history of the Braves from Boston, to Milwaukee, and finally to Atlanta.

This is the sundial in Little Mulberry Park north of Atlanta. See that pretty sky? Yeah, hold that thought.

Date: November 15, 2008.

366 Pictures: #259 Doubtful

Photobucket

Photobucket

I noticed walking up to the overlook that it was getting pretty cloudy. It had been windy all day long, but hadn't actually rained where I'd been. However, looking at the line of clouds headed my way, I knew it was doubtful that I'd get down the hill without getting soaked.
