None of us figured out exactly what this person is supposed to be. There was a man and woman dressed up in this masked costume. The best we could do was a camouflaged bunny rabbit!

This weekend is the Inman Park Festival in Atlanta. It's a lot of fun and has the wackiest parade! This is an example of a fairly typical costume for the parade.

So, not the traditional take on handmade, but the decorations that cover this car were certainly done by hand.

Genius Plan , Inferior Execution . . .

In case you haven't heard, one creative Red Sox fan decided to bury a Red Sox jersey underneath the new Yankee Stadium. There are a ton of news stories about it. When I first heard about it (thank you, Drew!) I suspected it was a planted story to rile up Yankee fans for the Boston series. Evidently not. My absolute favorite story is this satirical one from Serious Sports News.

What I don't understand is why the Red Sox fan spoke up? I mean, couldn't he wait a few more months? The better plan would've been to bury the jersey, document it with photographs showing landmarks of the stadium and then keep your mouth shut. Then, once the stadium was complete and there was very little chance of them digging up the jersey, the photos are mailed anonymously to a newspaper. I mean, sure, he wouldn't have his name out there, but he also wouldn't be facing a lawsuit and criminal charges. I mean, he obviously waited a few months to speak up, what's a few more? I'm sure it was killing him to keep quiet!

Come to think of it, I would guess that if this story came out after the new Yankee Stadium was completed the Yankee organization would have still tried to dig it up. From the sounds of it, they immediately went into "red alert" trying to find the burial location. And really, all the curse nonsense is getting pretty ridiculous. Yes, Boston fans have long lamented the "Curse of the Babe." I don't believe in that curse anymore than I believe in the "Curse of the Goat." Nope, not at all. Although, now that I think about it . . . maybe the burial cursed Ortiz! I mean, he was batting .077 after Friday's game and now it's dropped to .70. Hideous. Hideous. Hideous. Big Papi needs to step up.

I think the Yankee fans should be much more concerned that Joe Girardi thought it was a good idea to pitch to Manny Ramirez with runners on, 2 outs, and first base open. No. No. No. You do not pitch to Manny with first base open like that, at least not if you want to end an inning. Hopefully, Girardi makes the same sort of decisions later in the week when we visit NYC.

Finally, if you are a Boston fan and have never visited Surviving Grady get yourself over there right now. If you visit, under no circumstances are you to leave without reading the "Cashman-Headwarmer Dialogues." They are hysterical! You can find the most recent one here. And, just because I like you and because they are so freakin' awesome, episodes one through five are here: One, Two, Three, Four, & Five! You gotta love Red and Denton. Now, go forth and read the hilarity!

Update . . .

First, the dude arrested in the picnic table story had his felony charges dropped. Whoa.

Second, I've been meaning to post this for a few days, but keep forgetting. This is from Letterman's Top Ten List from April 3, 2008.

Top Ten Excuses of the Man Caught Having Sex With a Picnic Table:

10. Got all worked up after looking through the IKEA catalog.

9. C'mon, did you see that picnic table?

8. I was refinishing it and things just got out of hand.

7. Just broke up with the pool table and didn't want to be alone.

6. If you're gonna arrest every man who's had sex with a picnic table, you're gonna have to build a hell of a lot more prisons.

5. Was curious if I could have sex with anything more flat and lifeless than my wife -- hiyooo!

4. Hey, a man has needs.

3. My doctor said I have Restless Nuts Syndrome.

2. It's not like I spent $4,000 for a hooker.

1. Well, it was our anniversary.

366 Pictures: #211 Bookworm

I'm almost embarrassed to post this picture. These three bookshelves hold my current inventory of unread books. Granted, I did not buy all of them! Some are purchased, but many are either gifts or mooched from Bookmooch. Some have been started and paused. The current one I'm reading is the top book on the first shelf, "People of the Book" by Geraldine Brooks.

I think I need a moratorium on books for a while, don't you?

This cowbell was being handed out all over downtown Atlanta on the day of the ING Marathon and Half-Marathon. It's for cheering the runners on during and after the race. People would ring their bell for finishers as congratulations well after the race was over. Pretty neat!

366 Pictures: #299 Poem

Pablo Neruda wrote some of the loveliest poems. This is a book of his selected poems, which unfortunately does not include my favorite.

If You Forget Me

I want you to know
one thing.

You know how this is:
if I look
at the crystal moon, at the red branch
of the slow autumn at my window,
if I touch
near the fire
the impalpable ash
or the wrinkled body of the log,
everything carries me to you,
as if everything that exists,
aromas, light, metals,
were little boats
that sail
toward those isles of yours that wait for me.

Well, now,
if little by little you stop loving me
I shall stop loving you little by little.

If suddenly
you forget me
do not look for me,
for I shall already have forgotten you.

If you think it long and mad,
the wind of banners
that passes through my life,
and you decide
to leave me at the shore
of the heart where I have roots,
remember
that on that day,
at that hour,
I shall lift my arms
and my roots will set off
to seek another land.

But
if each day,
each hour,
you feel that you are destined for me
with implacable sweetness,
if each day a flower
climbs up to your lips to seek me,
ah my love, ah my own,
in me all that fire is repeated,
in me nothing is extinguished or forgotten,
my love feeds on your love, beloved,
and as long as you live it will be in your arms
without leaving mine.

This is the fanciest dress I own. I wore it to Barrister's Ball (or as my classmates and I referred to it "law school prom") my first year of law school. I love, love, love this dress. The first picture is the actual theme picture. The second is just to give you an idea of what the dress looks like. Unfortunately, all of my walls are apartment beige so the champagne dress doesn't stand out very well.
