366 Pictures: #33 Stripey

It's my pretty, stripey shower curtain!

Photo Date: January 12, 2008.

12 of 12 (3): January 2008

It's time again for 12 of 12, round 3! As always, all credit goes to Chad Darnell for the great idea!

9:30 a.m.: Good morning!

1:15 p.m.: After breakfast and the Saturday paper it's time to hop in the shower. I'm thinking I might use this picture for my "stripey" 366 theme.

2:30 p.m.: It's out of the house . . . finally! I'm on the way to the grocery store. Thankfully, I can listen to my iPod in the truck . . . it's Jon's CD!

3:30 p.m.: I took a detour on the way home from the grocery store. I decided to drive through the Chattahoochee Rec Park that is just down from where I live. I snapped this picture out of the front windshield!

3:45 p.m.: A truck full of yummy food! Now to carry it in and put it away.

4:40 p.m.: I've decided to make pot roast for dinner. Here are my veggies: carrots, mushrooms, and onions.

4:45 p.m.: And, here is the roast. The recipe I'm using is from The Pioneer Woman Cooks.

4:50 p.m.: After searing the roast, I deglaze my dutch oven with a little red wine and beef stock. Then, I add the meat back in, add more beef stock and Herbs of Provence. Yum!

4:55 p.m.: And, here is the yumminess just before it's placed in the oven to cook for two hours!

5:15 p.m.: I've been having issues today with my DSL connection. It seems to come and go as it pleases. See the little red light on the right . . . we want it to be green.

Yay! It's green!

7:15 p.m.: Dinner is served!

7:20 p.m.: With a dented can of ginger ale on the side.

That's my lazy Saturday! Please check out Chad's site for the other 12 of 12s!

366 Pictures: #327 Flight

I really thought I'd want to use a picture from the Atlanta airport for the flight photo. However, once I saw this photo of a plane flying over Union Square I really wanted to use it.

366 Pictures: #192 Sunset

Photobucket

Taken from the top of Rockefeller Center. The sunset over New York Bay and Liberty Island.

366 Pictures: #41 Time

Photobucket

This is the Metronome clock at Union Square. The artists who created it are Kristen Jones and Andrew Ginzel. The clock is part of a larger installation. Starting from left to right the first four numbers are the time of day in military time. From right to left, the numbers give the time until midnight. So, on the left is the time since midnight, and on the right the time until midnight.

Taken from the "Top of the Rock" this shows the iron work on the 70th floor of Rockefeller Center. You can even see the city lights below.

366 Pictures: #115 Flag

This photo was taken at Ground Zero. We were there on a windy, windy day and the flag was billowing just beautifully.

366 Pictures: #1 Sparkle

Photobucket

I love this picture for some reason. This is the Christmas tree at Rockefeller Center in NYC. I love the blurry aspect to the photo and it makes me all happy with the pretty sparklies!

366 Pictures: #13 Chocolate

Look at all that chocolatey goodness! This was the dessert Gracie and I ordered at Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. in Times Square. It's name? "That Chocolate Thing!" It was flourless chocolate cake, ice cream, and what's dessert without whipped cream!

Jon Jon . . .

If you practice an art, be proud of it and make it proud of you. It may break your heart, but it will fill your heart before it breaks it; it will make you a person in your own right.
Maxwell Anderson

A little over a year ago my youngest cousin, Jon, decided to record an album. He'd taught himself to play several instruments, and after going through one hell of a ordeal after high school graduation became quite the songwriter. His album was finally released earlier this month and it's great. I was able to get my copy from him over the Christmas holidays and it seriously has only left my CD player twice. Once to listen to a little bit of DMB's Piedmont Park show and the other when it was brought from the car to the house. Seriously.

Last night, I uploaded the CD to my iPod so that I'll be able to listen to it when I'm in NYC this weekend. As it was uploading I was thinking how cool it was that he's accomplished something so heartfelt and wonderful. How many people would stop work and record an album simply to record it, to just get the songs out so they're out there?!

Jon's one of the sweetest and funniest guys in the world and he's also very creative. I was so surprised and excited last Christmas when we sat at his Mac and listened to some of his songs. I had no clue he was writing, let along that he was that good! He has quirky songs, a few mellow ones, and then serious songs on the album. There's a good mix and his style is somewhere between bluegrass and folk. There's lots of lovely acoustics going on. But all of it suits his personality. Anybody who knows Jon can hear him in his songs.

I'm so proud of him and I can't wait to hear what he comes up with next. If any of you are into bluegrass or folk music, or if you like to support independent music . . . check out Jon Jackson and his CD "Green Apples." I promise you won't be sorry. You can purchase it here: Green Apples at CD Baby. I've also put his MySpace page in my links section. He always has a few of his songs linked up there so wander over and check him out.

366 Pictures . . .

Lovely Helen found mention of some friends who have created a photo challenge for the entire year of 2008. It's called 366 pictures and you can read all about it here: 366 Pictures.

Helen is super creative and created her own list of 366 themes, modified the rules a bit and invited some of us to take the challenge with her.

Here are our rules:

1. Photos must be taken between 12:01am January 1st 2008 and 11:59pm December 31st 2008.
2. Photos must be your own, not taken from other people.
3. Photos to be posted in your Blog/Blurty/Photobucket (linked to), etc.
4. All images remain yours.
5. You don't have to take the photo themes in order, nor to take exactly one photo each day - many people work long hours or hours which mean few free daylight hours - you may find you cross off three themes in one day. Think of it as a photographic treasure hunt or quest.
6. All images must be original, not photoshopped - the point is to have fun and challenge yourself to improve photography, not how well you can correct your mistakes with manipulation (this one is reliant on people's honesty, but hey, I never PS).
7. No nudity, porn, or illegality!

Here are the 366 ideas she came up with:

Each theme is permalinked to its individual post.

I think it's going to be fun! Besides, what better excuse to play with my new SLR? So, challenge starts today. I think some of them will be fairly easy, and some will be fairly hard. #327 is already in the bag since I'll be flying to NYC on Friday. Airport pictures! All in all, it's a chance for us to have fun and be creative.
